Melancholy and sadness are the start of doubt... doubt is the beginning of despair; despair is the cruel beginning of the differing degrees of wickedness. -- Comte de Lautreamont

Ice Ages ‎– Nullify

Image
When i heard that there is a new album by Ice Ages after more than 10 years a few months ago, my expectations after the last releases were correspondingly high. the last two albums in particular have absolutely convinced me and, due to their sovereignty and distinctiveness, have placed a great monument in the musical landscape. Hits like This Killing Emptiness, Buried Silence, Tormented In Grace and Lifeless Sentiments have left their positive marks on my brain. when i heard the first tracks from Nullify i was extremely disappointed, because the whole album is produced in an extremely vapid way and lacks any charm. the voice sounds kind of annoying and everything seems somehow spoiled. the only two songs that made it into my playlist are Empty Shrine and Chasm. everything else couldn't convince me. Mr. Lederer, you'd better not have published this album, because it doesn't meet the high standards you are used to. i'm sorry to say this but the whole release is an auditor

Demdike Stare - Savage Distort

Image
same with this very similar sounding song. unfortunately it's not available anywhere and I'm not even sure if this is an official release at all. for the reasons mentioned, it unfortunately did not end up in the playlist either .

Portishead - SOS

Image
By far their best cover and generally the best song of Portishead! so wonderfully intense and inventive that it blew me away when I first heard it. Unfortunately, this song is nowhere officially available for reasons I don't understand, so it didn't end up in the playlist.

Quote of the day:

Image
A man's delight in looking forward to and hoping for some particular satisfaction is a part of the pleasure flowing out of it, enjoyed in advance. But this is afterward deducted, for the more we look forward to anything the less we enjoy it when it comes.   -- Arthur Schopenhauer

Another poem by my former friend that i translated into english:

Image
Nameless Dying thrusts the sky. Insanity hides the blind glow of the blood. A lantern of the Dead flickers over cities. An empty grave calls home. Memory of God's parting word. Exanimates babbles through time lurching and cataclysms play doom in brains. A supper of pain and fear.

quote of the day: "Virtue knows that it is impossible to get on without compromise, and tunes herself, as it were, a trifle sharp to allow for an inevitable fall in playing." -- Samuel Butler (1835 - 1902)

Image
He was the iconoclastic English author of the Utopian satirical novel Erewhon (1872) and the semi-autobiographical Bildungsroman The Way of All Flesh, published posthumously in 1903. Both have remained in print ever since. In other studies he examined Christian orthodoxy, evolutionary thought, and Italian art, and made prose translations of the Iliad and Odyssey that are still consulted today. He was also an artist.

Nightfield - Bleakness (Official Video)

Image
i made this video once with my older brother. it was my first and so far last attempt to create a music video. it was filmed in winter 2003 and finished in 2004. i made the corresponding music for it in the same year.

i just tried to translate a poem by a former friend from german to english. The many wonderful neologisms that he used and for which there is often no equivalent in english make the whole thing unfortunately very difficult...apart from that, what do you think of it?

Mirrored A despicable that shudders towards the inside. a clenching face whose paleness screams and searches retchingly. the attempt of healing echoes gnawingly. The who flows in vain around the nevermore. In staring gaze, totally in pain; and heartache blazes softly around the abyss.
